Restoring Armored Shorelines in the Puget Sound (2016 - present)
We are currently conducting a meta-analyses to determine the effectiveness of restored shorelines on coastal ecosystems. Shoreline armoring, a global phenomena, has negative consequences on coastal ecosystem health.
However, some shorelines in the Puget Sound have undergone restoration. Our study, funded by Washington Sea Grant, seeks to address the following questions:
1) Can restoring or enhancing armored shorelines bring back health coastal ecosystems?
2) How can coastline managers use our study to better balance the needs for both ecosystems and coastal livelihoods?
